Yep. It finally happened. I lost all my photos from the past year. Now before you start freaking out, I still have my .JPEG files, so I haven't necessarily lost EVERYTHING. It's just that I lost all of my .RAW files. For those of you who aren't photo savvy, that means I lost the original photos my camera took and therefore cannot edit any of those photos anymore.
It's not the end of the world though. Like I said, I did manage to save my JPEGs, so photo prints are all still available. I was also able to recover SOME photos from trips this year, but as 2018 goes, it's basically all scrapped. The things I'm the most upset about is that I lost all of my files from my Colorado trip, and my original files from my Raystown Lake photo.
I had so many fun memories with Lauren on our trip to Colorado. It makes me really sad that a lot of it is just gone forever.
So yeah. Things kind of suck right now. I went and picked up a second external hard drive so I can have redundant backup files, and I'm going to start being a lot more careful. When I first started this "business" I was pretty care-free because I wasn't making money, working with real clients, or selling photos. Now that I'm actually building my work into a brand, I need to really ramp up and start thinking about this stuff. I'm kind of glad it happened now, rather than in a year or two when I have more photos. Definitely a lesson learned.
Oh, and for a little backstory, this all came about because my Instagram got hacked. I lost my page for awhile, had my Netflix stolen, and a keylogger installed on my laptop. I had to wipe my computers hard drive, and apparently when I copied everything over, the data got corrupt. I also had a hell of a time getting my Instagram back. If you use Instagram, and don't have two-factor authentication set up, I HIGHLY recommend it. It saved my account and allowed me to change my password before it was gone for good. So that's what I've been dealing with the past two weeks.
One of my favorite photos from the year. It makes me so sad that the original photos are gone, but I'm so thankful I still have the image saved.
Anyways, let's talk about some good news. I picked up my 2019 Calendars from the print shop (shout out to PGC, one of the best experiences I've had, and I couldn't recommend them enough. I'll drop their website link down below if you want to check them out or need to print something for yourself!). They're currently available on my store. Link below for that!
I'm really excited about the calendars, guys. It makes me feel official and I think it's a great way to wrap up the year into one neat package. There's images from everywhere I've been this year, and I personally picked my favorites for it. I highly recommend snagging one before I run out of them. I have a pretty limited amount, and I'm thinking they'll be gone sooner rather than later. Here's a little sample of the front and back, and if you head on over to the shop page to view it, you can see a sneak peak of one of the pages inside!
I ended up going with portrait style images for the inside, but was lucky enough to sneak a few landscape orientation images on the front and back!
As for the blog, you can expect the Southwest wrap up pretty soon. Then my Iceland blogs will start! Sorry I've been so behind on it, things got a bit hectic as you can tell the past few weeks. I promise they'll be back up and running.
Anyways, thank you everyone. 2018 was an amazing year, even if everything is gone, and I couldn't have done all of this without the support I've received from everyone. I hope you love the calendar if you buy one, and if not, you can always snag a print off the shop whenever you'd like!
Thank you all,
